ADAPTATIONS AVAILABLE ON THE MOTABILITY SCHEME

Motability adaptations are designed to make driving and travelling more accessible. They generally fall into three categories:

  • Helping you drive
  • Helping you get in and out of the car
  • Helping you store mobility equipment such as wheelchairs or scooters

There are many different options available through the Motability Scheme to suit a wide range of mobility needs. Some examples include:

Suzuki Hand controls

Push/pull hand controls allow you to control the accelerator and brake using your hands. Pull to accelerate and push to brake. Several handle designs are available so you can choose the option that feels most comfortable. These controls are fitted to automatic vehicles only.

Suzuki Steering aids

Steering aids

Steering aids help make turning the wheel easier, allowing you to steer using one hand if needed. Options include: Standard fixed steering aids (permanently attached) Quick-release steering aids (ideal if the car is shared with other drivers) Specialist steering aids for more complex mobility requirements

Suzuki Left or right foot accelerators

Left or right foot accelerators

These allow you to accelerate using your preferred foot, making driving more comfortable if you have limited mobility on one side.

Suzuki Electronic accelerators

Electronic accelerators

If push/pull hand controls aren’t suitable, electronic accelerator systems may be available. These provide alternative ways to control acceleration and are also fitted to automatic vehicles only.

Suzuki Transfer plates

Transfer plates

Transfer plates create a supportive bridge between a wheelchair and the car seat, making it easier to move into the vehicle. They can be manual or electronic and fold away once you’re seated.
